Unbreakable

She listens for the sounds of the city
And peacefully sits back, knowing that tomorrow
Will just be another busy day.
She thrives in this; this is the blood

That gives her life.
Work.
That's what it was from then on.
Never underestimates and always on the lookout.
She keeps herself guarded from other people's feelings.
Once, she became too attached to people and

It broke her heart.
She was let down.
Again.
She vowed never to let her feelings show,

Never to show compassion.
In the following days and months, she learned,

Or rather, re-learned
How to numb herself from the environment

She's surrounding herself with.
She closed off from people, she retracted

From the very root of her recent dilemma.
She took her heart back from the

People she so freely gave it to.
What's the use of putting your feelings

On the line if people relentlessly step on it?
The walls are up.
Yet again.
